I would like to present the presidents report on behalf of the SBJFC for 2017. We have had a successful year both on and off the field with our year 11 Boys winning the Grand Final and our year 9s South Bunbury Red winning the Blue Grand Final, our other year 9, year 8, year 10 and Youth Girls 7-9 all Finished 3rd. The year 7s made the Grand Final but finished 2nd. We also had a year 10 -12 girls team who finished 5th.
Thanks to the senior club for allowing use of the lights this year with us have a game every Friday night and allowing parents to have a meal and enjoy a drink on Friday nights. Most teams took advantage of this however we need to keep encouraging parents to get down to the club on Friday nights. The relationship with the senior club strengthened this year and all reports suggest Friday nights were a success.
We had a large reduction in youth girls this year due to a few reasons. The main reason was other clubs introducing youth girls teams and some of our girls moving to those clubs. With the loss of our main organisers and coaches close to the start of the season we were caught on the hop a bit and lost some of our girls. We will need to continue to work hard in the future to attract youth girls to the club and strengthen our position again.
A huge thanks once again to Steve Kirby for promoting the footy Champs this year, this program is designed for children with disadvantages that normally would not have the opportunity to play football. We regularly had 6-10 children at the games and I think they all enjoyed themselves with regular BBQs during the year.
This year Auskick also came under the umbrella of South Bunbury Juniors and was changed to be held on Friday nights. Thanks to Gavin Hayres and his support crew for organising the Auskick. Thanks also to the senior club for providing the sausage sizzle after the games and I believe the Friday nights were a success from all points of view.
Once again this year the junior clubs were responsible for suppling umpires for all home games, this sometimes meant supplying up to 18 umpires a week. A big thankyou to all the umpires that helped out and especially our junior umpires from year 7, 9, 10 and 11. Thanks to the SWFL umpires as well for helping out. It is a tough job but with very few incidents I can say that they all can be proud of the job they did.
Thanks to Simon Hiscox and all parents for their fundraising efforts this year in selling Raffle tickets in the AFL raffle. We raised about $4000 a great effort. I think the AFL raffle is a good fundraiser and we should continue with this next year.
This year we had a total of 13 teams represent South Bunbury, having a team in every year with 2 in year 4, 2 in year 5, 2 in year 9 and 2 in the youth girls. I would like to congratulate them all for their participation and conduct on and off the field, with about 300 kids to only have a few minor incidents all year is a credit to them. Generally this year in the older age groups the teams were short of numbers due to injury and various other reasons but all teams managed to be quite successful which shows the strength we have coming through the juniors. Can I also thank all Coaches and Managers this year. I think we have a great group of people and again with very few incidents you all conduct yourselves in a professional and competent manner.
Both our presentation nights were very successful events and I would like to thank all for their help in organising. This year we appointed 1 new life Member and congratulations to Steve Kirby on achieving this. Congratulations to all fairest and best winners from each age group team. A special mention to our major award winners
